may be 'cause it's the only way to quickly get anaglyph slides?
(indeed Qdos isn't the only suitable device: look at
http://sung3.ifsi.rm.cnr.it/~dargaud/Antarctica/Anaglyph.html  or think of
anaglyph attachments for movie cameras).
