An alternative is to modify the camera's hot shoe
by filing down the "bump" that prevents the flash
from entering the hot shoe. Then you can position the
flash at the top of the camera, and, if done right,
the grip is tight enough not to worry about having
the flash fall off.
Some people are worried about the effect that this
modification has on the resale value of the camera.
For a common Realist 3.5 I would say that this
increases the resale value. The camera has become
"electronic flash ready".
I have modified all my Realists this way. It is not
the savings (not needing to buy the expensive adapter)
but the convenience (an adapter is not needed).
