Hi Paul and congratulations in successfully mounting
your first stereo slide!!!  May many more follow.

To answer your question about slight frame overlap,
this is very common in Realist cameras.  Since the
mount masks part of the film chip, this overlap will
be covered under the mount so it is not a problem
at all.

As Ron said, a simple cutter will simplify and speed
the process of cutting the film.  I use a friction cutter
which is nice and flexible.  The Realist cutter has a 
fixed sprocket but it will not advance the film 
just the right length as Ron said... You still have
to advance the film yourself.  The sprocket will
make sure that you are cutting the film between two
perforations.  I prefer the friction cutter since I am
mounting slides in all different formats.
