Here'a an interesting story. There are 2 Ritz camera stores ( we'll
refer to them as store A and B) seperated by only 3 city blocks. Each
store had the same lab machine, and were equal in finishing volume for
years. However, last year store B pulled away from store A with 15%
increases during the summer and fall. The new manager and staff were not
recognized for the increases, rather it was determined to be a "fluke"
since store A was suffering from machine problems etc. Store A received
a new Fuji Frontier machine. Within one year store A turned it around,
and now it is store B suffering with machine problems and 15% losses in
finishing volume. (BTW, the district manager requests that his photos be
done ony on a Frontier machine.) " A" can do prints from slides,
enlargements etc in one hour....B uses an outlab that takes one week.
Consumers are actually calling around to the different stores to locate
the Frontier machines....yes the prints look that good! The sad ending
to this scenario is that the employees in store B are being targeted as
the blame for the decreases. A 10 year lab manager walked off the job,
and 2 great lab techs followed. The Frontier is so superior, it is
drawing business away from other company stores, causing rivalries, and
affecting the careers of people!
