[photo-3d] George Themelis
Sorry to bother everyone else but George Themelis e-mailed me off group and I gather that he could not receive my reply (probably my PCs fault). Rather than be rude and say nothing I thought I would use this group to reply, all the more so since your opinion, George, seems to be common amongst more established stereo (and even flatty) photographers:- namely that AF is rather redundant in stereo photography.
I know a lot of stereo photographers dont use AF, let alone twin two AF cameras, because it focuses on the front of the main subject rather than at the point which gives the greatest depth of field. But I love the convenience of all-singing all-dancing SLRs.
If you are in a hurry you can just press the button. If you have time and want to get the best shot you can switch off the AF and program features and TTL meter and use a hand held meter. I dont intend any offence to anyone, and I know that I am up against the people who have all the experience, but I feel that technology such as autofocus is dismissed a little too quickly and is a bit of a godsend for those of us who are new to photography and stereo and need the help.
Beside, I have a sneaking suspicion that there aren't many stereo photographers who can honestly say that they have never used AF !
