Re: [photo-3d] Digital Is Good for Film

I recently bought a Casio QV-3000EX LCD Digital camera (~$1000.)... 3.3 Mega
Pixels. It comes bundled with a physically very small 340MB disk that fits in
the camera. The whole outfit is compact and light. Along with this, I also
bought a HP Deskjet 932C (~$200.) 'photo quality' printer. My computer system
has Win98 and thus a USB port for fast uploading of images from camera. The
camera came with requisite software.

This hardware combo is an amazing setup. The prints I get off the Deskjet look
terrific (for ~5x7 and less; even the 8x10s are good), and for family album
application, I'll probably not return to the film-based scenario as the primal
component of my everyday print shooting. When I show the prints to people,
they are all impressed.

There is no hastle with development, I can shoot ~300 high res images (much
more with lower res) at a time, and bracket till I'm blue in the face (heck, I
can shift the camera a half dozen times, and just choose the 3D pair for the
effect I want; then simply delete the rest of the braketed shots from the
camera disk). Archiving is almost foolproof and 'forever' lasting. Editing is
trivial with the neat software available. Exchange of images is also extremely
convenient. Doing 'massive' photo experiments (and we all know about these for
our 3D inspirations!) cost almost nothing in comparison to what I've had to do
with film-based. And,,, those Lithium batteries are great (just keep the urge
to view LCD often, down!) The camera allows me to delete images in the field.

I bought the Casio knowing that I really wanted a 10+Mega Pixel camera, but
prices are now too high. So, I'll wait a few years to get the 'ultimate' (lens
interchangeability and all the goodies for ~$1000). This WILL happen and
film-based 35mm (maybe medium format too) photog WILL be history in my
opinion. Hopefully, manufacturers will smoothly migrate film-based to
digital,,, e.g. allow FBased lenses to be used as well with Digitals.

But, there is the 'nostalgic magnet' for 3D slide shooting... of grabbing my
Realist 2.8 and heading out. Personally built-in neural vibes and associated
pleasures of going through the 'processes', including doing my own mounting,
has been ethched for 32 years and is undefinable and personal. I am unsure
what digital can do or will be able to do for this output format.

Q: Does anyone in this group know about the state-of-art for getting quality
slides from a digital?
