[photo-3d] heat seal vs spicer vs rbt

I started with spicers, then tried heat seals, then RBTs. And IMHO the RBTs
win hands down. Yes, I was using a jig with the paper mounts. I find that
I'm too picky about good alignment to just slap the chips in and seal shut.
But I still found many instances where the chips could use a bit of vertical
realignment, or where I saw afterward that the pair could have been composed
better by slipping both chips one direction or the other (to better center
the primary subject or to pick up some detail near an edge). But with the
cardboards, I've taped it down already; so now I have to pull the tape off
the chips (and usually some paper comes with the tape when it's separated
from the mount), then start all over. What a pain! With RBTs, I don't even
have to put the top half on to view the mount because the pins hold them
securely enough to slip into the viewer. Readjustment is so simple and
convenient, even weeks or months later......try THAT with a heat seal mount!
Yes, RBTs are more expensive than I like. But they're the best for me, and
why settle for the second best mounts for my artwork? That's what my stereo
slides are, after all. Art! Does a painter place a $10 cheapo frame on his
masterpiece, or does he use the best frame available, one that will most
enhance his work? You know the answer.
(Hmmm, maybe I should get a commission for the increased RBT sales.....or at
least a discount?) Anyway, I will still use some cardboard mounts, mainly
for over/underexposed shots and such. But that's me. You might have
different feelings.
