I have always recommended using a tripod for night photography. One
benefit is far better image quality. I might add that a tripod should
always be used where possible. You will reap many benefits to using a
tripod, and you can also use slower films, thus adding to the overall
quality. I never shoot at 1/30th of a second without a tripod.
