Do you mean quirk in the sense of a malfunction or an anomoly of just your 
camera?  This is the normal operation of the Ricohs.  The XR-10M that many 
use in a twin rig does the same thing, and it's referred to in the manual.  
Flash sync is 1/100 in auto and 1/60 in manual.  There's no 1/90 speed on the 
XR-10M.
