Paul T demo'ed that jig for me during a recent visit, and it's pretty
slick. Now, I don't want to deflect any business from RMM, but if you are
on a budget like mine, and at all handy, you can devise some pretty good
jigs of this sort using sheets of styrene plastic, available in various
thicknesses and assortments, cheaply available from hobby shops frequented
by railroad modellers.

For instance, when I was using a trimmed RBT to mount on heat seals, I
cobbled together a nice little styrene frame that held the mount flat and
provided a straight edge in the proper place for aligning the RBT jig with
the mount. The backing of the frame was itself white translucent styrene,
allowing the whole gag to sit on a light box. This design could readily
be adapted to have a metal-tape-hinged "hold down" flap, doing away with
the trimmed RBT, with scratch marks on the plastic to show standard chip
separations, with one side of the straight edge shimmed if necessary for
any vertical misalignment issues in your camera. (In that case, a
different frame for each stereo camera would be in order.) This home-brew
jig would work about as well as the RMM custom item, I believe. You do
have to be a bit handy (and accurate) in cutting and gluing the styrene,
but it's a very inexpensive way to get there - and you only have to do it
once.
