I think Peter has actually said what I was trying to unsuccessfully.  It's like
if one put two slides into a hand-viewer at the same time.  I subjectively think 
that it has to do with where things are in the two images and how the
images themselves overlap in all three dimensions, but I haven't analyzed 
exactly what the problem is.
