The great thing about statistics is how easy it is to spin them to suit a
specific purpose. This is why I never seriously consider statistics
unless I know specifically how they were gathered and by who. For
example, I can prove that all photographers are stereo photographers. The
logic I would use will stand the scrutiny of other mathematicians. In
this case, I do not even need to move out of my little office or see
another photographer. E-mail me if you want to see this in action - I
won't bore the list.

To be fair, however - I do think digital camera use will continue onward
and upward and the use of film will decline. This means we will
eventually start to see some films discontinued and better digital
cameras come on the market.

I do not believe film will completely disappear, just less and less
variety. Consider Photographic paper. Currently Kodak offers far less
sizes, grades and surfaces than 20 years ago, but there are several other
manufacturers supplying the market.
