[photo-3d] So Why Worry?

Human nature is funny with regard to their photography. I have alot of
experience observing this relationship between cameras, images, and
their owners. For example, if I were to ask a customer for permission to
display a poster print of their image in a highly visible location, or
display the image in a company catalog, with credits awarded, and with
the understanding that their negative will not be returned.........my
estimate is 85%+ people would agree to this arrangement. OTOH, if I were
to lose the negative while making a reprint, 85%+ would demand unusually
high compensation, and a few would sue. This actually happened to a
competitor. A few frames were damaged or lost ( wedding photos) and the
party sued for $10,000, lost the case, and appealed.......the second
hearing is in nov. Can't wait for the outcome!
Anyway, I have to agree with Dr. T and others.
If you're an active photographer, you have many award winners coming
that you haven't shot yet. I give tons of images away, and their good
ones, and I keep tons for myself. If one gets lost, I've got a few more
that are similar. I struggle to decide which images to enter in
competitions. If you're very worried about losing images........just
shoot more images. :-) Seriously, I've got a few slides I'd feel bad
about if they were lost, but I'd be smiling again after my next roll.
Sueing someone takes alot more time/money than re-enacting or revisiting
the scene. Now get out there and take some new
pictures! :-) Mark Dottle
