I bought a FED to try the Euro Format that I was hearing so much
about, you know, how "wider is better".
Even on ebay, I couldn't find a 7 perf for less than the FED BOY.
All of the old used 7 perfs were MUCH higher and then you have the
RBTs. (In truth the FED is more like a 6 2/3 perf.)
There is much I don't like about the FED; no rangefinder, clumsy
case, expensive slide mounts (not the cameras failt), and auto
exposure with no overrides except to go to 1/30 sec and an F stop
between 2.8 and 11, to name a few. I wish they made an all manual
version of the FED.
I didn't really expect much from this camera, It didn't cost much, is
Russian made, and someone posted a not so good review of one on the
web.
What did suprise me was that the lenses seem to be very sharp. I
really don't know why. Somewhere I read that the Russians got the
best German lens factories after WW2, maybe the Russians learned
something.

I do, sometimes. Are you saying that the Realist is as good as a S1
in manual mode? Which Realist?

I have seen one. The problem here is that Realist didn't design their
lenses for that wide a field and to get acceptable edge performance
you need to use the best F2.8 lenses they sold or better yet, replace
them with non-Realist lenses. It does run into big money but is
great for people who love the Realist and want to get more out of it
at any cost.
