When I was a kid in Kaneohe, Hawaii (a suburb of Honolulu, kindof) and
active in amateur radio (KH6FON at the time), I'd receive ham-radio oriented
postcards intended for me that were addressed to "Mike - Kaneohe, Hawaii".
I don't recall the population then (or now) but it was a 5-digit population
sort of town. I thought tat was pretty good, although not as good as the
anecdote I'm following up to.
I don't think "Mike - Beaverton, OR" would work today, however.
