[photo-3d] RBT cameras

Jon's right re the market base for a custom stereo camera built from the
ground up. Relatively speaking based on the number of units that can be
potentially sold, and the work it takes to do it, the RBT camera is priced
reasonably, and does the job. Is it perfect? Of course not, but even a
$40k Nikon special products camera isn't going to be perfect. There are
probably hundreds of thousands of man-hours involved engineering a
production camera, building the tooling, etc, and even those cameras make
trips to the shop from time to time.
Here in the stereo community we tend to look at 3D cameras, etc through
the wrong end of a magnifying glass. There may be a strong sense of
community, but there really aren't that many of us, especially in relation
to 2d and standard digital photography. We are a small market niche, not a
major industry.
