If there is any hope of better (Cheaper) stereo camera, it will take a
resurgence in stereo by the masses. As much as I hate the loss of the
past, I certainly understand why. No one is about to design something
like a Stereo Camera with a high degree of quality, and hope to make
money selling it. Sad but true. We need to get more people involved with
stereo photography, show slides to as many as possible, and support
stereo photography. We can all help with bringing stereo back from the
brink.
Outside of this list, where the happy Internet World is filled with
Stereo Photographers, we might tend to forget that there ain't that many
of us, compared to all those flat people. The bright spot is the SI
Swimsuit Issue. Perhaps that will cause a few more to explore Stereo
Photography. I really hope more magazines do similar things.
I do find it interesting that several companies are bringing back
completely manual Rangefinder cameras. Cosina is selling their
Voightlander Bessa 35mm rangefinder camera, for example.
As for the Realist Vs the World discussion, all of the posts of late
prove that there are people who hate or love the Realist. That will not
change. Also, let me make it clear that I do not hate the RBT. Some posts
of mine would make you think that I believe RBT is not a good camera. I
do not have experience with it, so I do not know. Jon Golden explained
who and how the RBT is produced, and my hat is off to those folks because
they at least are adding to the Stereo Stream. It takes guts to product
something like this.
I also commented about how "Easy" it is to manufacture cameras. I really
do not believe this, it is NOT a simple thing. Jon mentioned Nikon as an
example of the cost - true, but they are Nikon, and anything from them is
$$$$$. However, I do believe that a decent Stereo Camera can be produced
from the ground up, but here again, who would buy it besides us?
As for the comments that Realist was "Manufactured Broke" That was a poor
choice of words and I do not think many really believe that. I think the
terms used were a poor choice, but I understand the reason for the
comment.
Now, perhaps we can all get back to discussing Stereo Photography and
stop arguing over things that are not worth arguing over.
