Good question!  Not sure about the absolute numbers but in
terms of those who would pay $500 in the 70s or $1000
today to upgrade their stereo camera, definitely there are
more today.  Today we have more serious hobbyists
and much better informed, connected & organized.
More thoughts will follow.
