I remember it. And I agree with what you're saying, though I think
"Commin At Ya" exemplifies the problem with the attempts at 3D
movies. They use stereo as a gimmick (things always coming though the
screen into the crowd) because the movie makers feel that that is the
only reason the public goes to 3D movies (and they're probably
right).

I personally thought the stereo in "Commin At Ya" was well done, but
there was no story there, the movie was stupid, and the only reason
to sit there was for the gimmick of 3D.

For people to have interest in 3d movies (or is it stereo movies),
the movie makers need to film a movie in stereo, not make a 3D movie.
In other words, make great movies and do great story telling in
stereo, not make a 3D movie. Stay behind the stereo window, coming
out only rarely if ever so as to remove the gimmick from the movie
making. This would hopefully change the public's mindset in what a
stereo movie is (or should be).

As you mentioned, "3D" has a new meaning today. It now means the
visual appearance of perspective (as with the advent of computer
graphics, like in the movie "Toy Story"), not stereo. Anything
relating to stereophotography needs to be promoted as "stereo", and
not "3D" so the public can gradually become aware of the difference
in what is being discussed.
