I've only been involved with stereo photography for about five years, but it
seems to me the widespread interest in stereo photography in the 50's was
merely a fad that faded. We might as well discuss what caused the demise in
the popularity of the hula-hoop or CB radio. I feel lucky that this brief
period of interest brought about the production of enough Realists and TDC
projectors to keep us maniacs supplied for 50 years and more. I would have
posted sooner about the demise of stereo, but it's been a busy few weeks for
me. I had to go into Manhattan to see a beautiful 3D print of "House of
Wax" at the Film Forum, as well as to catch a showing of the spectacular
computer animated Imax film "Cyberworld 3D". Also I've been running around
searching for copies of the new Sports Illustrated 3D issue, trying to find
time to check out the cool new Ray Zone View-Master reel I just got and
trying to get some of my slides mounted to bring to the New York 3rd Friday
stereo dinner next week. It can be difficult to find time to ponder the
demise of stereo these days. Jim Harp
