The cost would be horrendous. The technology would have to be perfected
way past what we have now. First, separation negs would have to be made -
3 for the left eye view and 3 for the right eye, then a black printer
most likely. Then from each of the 7 separations, a matrix would have to
be made. Then each matrix would be dyed and laid down in perfect
registration. Technicolor once specified that registration needs to he
held at something like 1/85,000 of an inch.

There is the Stereo-Jet process that eliminates the need for matrix film,
but you would be making lots of passes through the printer. From what I
understand, current ink-jet techniques are not as good as hopes they
would be. You would have to use a printer that was capable of printing 3
times at perfect registration for one view and 3 for the other view. I am
sure this could be done, but here again, costs would be a serious
problem.
