I also tried the same experiment a couple times, but I didn't get any 3d (in
PAL TV). Nevertheless it should work fine on a camera using film.
My friend Giorgio Bogoni showed a split NuView video in
 http://www.egroups.com/files/holostereoitalia/bacheca/side+by+side/
I'm not set up to capture full motion videos, but I sadistically enjoyed
converting Giorgio's job into anaglyph format (Giorgio hates colour
anaglyphs).

my 1st experiment with a cheap digital camera able to record short mpegs and
a beam splitter is in
http://www.egroups.com/files/holostereoitalia/bacheca/splitvideo/
I did the anaglyph conversion by using a cheap (but incredibly powerful)
software I downloaded from http://www.photoalb.com/combine
Sergio
P.S. I also tried the conversion of a video I shot by "Honest Gabe's" method
