Cheer up!  Of course the average Joe doesn't care about stereo.  He 
also doesn't really care about the difference between a 35mm print 
and a 70mm print, and probably doesn't give a hoot about surround 
sound.  Because surround sound is now relatively easy and inexpensive 
to implement there are 6 track audio presentations of movies in 
multiplexes everywhere.  Once 3D becomes as easy and cheap I think it 
will also become the norm.  This might not be just around the corner, 
but I'm convinced that eventually the technological hurdles will be 
overcome and the realism of 3D will become an accepted part of 
popular entertainment.
