Brian Reynolds has mentioned that he has recently noticed more and more
people recognizing his Sputnik or twinned Lubitels as stereo cameras, and I
certainly concur with that. I've been shooting with a twinned Ricoh XR-10Ms
for about two years, and in the last 6 months I've been surprised how many
people have come up to me and commented on my stereo camera. I don't
remember this ever happening when I first started using the rig - I'd hear
suggestions that one was a back-up, or maybe one was color and the other
black and white, or just get puzzled looks. I got a kick out of seeing an
analglyphic 3D movie depicted on "Voyager". My guess is that this never
would have happened without the inspiration of the Sports Illustrated 3D
Swimsuit issue. There's also a JC Penney commercial currently running which
depicts a View-Master reel.
