In my wonderful state of Pennsylvania, I have not experienced stereo
awareness from young folks, or anyone for that matter.
Currently, I have been photographing the city of Pittsburgh. I have
attended festivals and events all summer, walked the streets day and
night, and have yet to see a stereo camera during my travels.
Last weekend I drove to Gettysburg to enjoy the sites, fall foliage etc.
A beautiful weekend with thousands of tourists visiting the location. I
did not see a single stereo camera, and have not met a single person who
new what a stereo camera was! I have engaged in many a conversation
however. I show stereo slide pairs to folks ( RBT paper folding viewer)
and they are blown away. The last man I spoke with thought my X4 was a
panaramic camera, and he thought the Realist was a rangefinder
fieldscope, like a binocular of sorts.....asking me to confirm the
distance to the monument I was photographing etc. In the last 3 years,
I've had 2 people approach me who new about stereo
photography...........but this occured in the state of Ohio...where Dr.
T and OSPS must be campaigning hard to spread the word. :-)
Interestingly enough (at Gettysburg) I saw an equal number of SLR's to
P&S cameras, and only 1-2 digital cameras. Of course I was not paying
close attention either.......if your shooting stereo, why would one care
what the " flatties" are using? :-) Mark Dottle
