Contrary to George Themelis and Bob Maxey (Nov 03, 2000)
I do understand and share Philip Steinman's feelings (Nov 02
2000) about the dispersion of Seton Rochwite's historical
items
(written as reaction on a Sell-3D Nov 02 2000 announcement of
an
Ebay auction).

George:
>Not all his belongings should or can be housed in a museum.

Why not? If the NSA Oliver Wendell Holmes Research Library
cannot
hold it, the California Museum of Photography should keep
them.
But of course, the problem is funding, a seller can hardly be
blamed for asking the money which items are worth.

>Some stuff will end up in collector's hands.
>I see nothing wrong with that.

Most of this stuff has historical significance, in collector's
hands most of it probably will be lost to public access.
The California Museum of Photography already has important
Rochwite items, adding all the other stuff would make the
total
even more valuable than the sum of its components.
The stereo community should support this, in my opinion.

Philip:
>...until the world realizes how important 3D photography is...

Maybe we should start explaining this on Photo-3D ? :-)
