Gabriel posted the piece I'd written, so I won't redo that. I've had good luck 
cutting chunks from old VM Model C viewers to fix other black bakelite 
viewers. Also Fargo and others sell black superglue, which can be hardened 
with spray accelerator. This is great for the black viewers. For brown ones, 
you pretty much have to have another one that's worse off to cut chunks from, 
or used colored urethane resin to recast the missing piece. Difficult to 
exactly match colors, but it can be done...
