I have used Kodak Ektachrome in most of its consumer forms
(Elite, Elite II, Select, etc.) as well as Fuji Sensia, Sensia
II, and Velvia. I have only used ProviaF in 120 form. Yes,
there is a difference between the films. However, I have not
had any consistent problem using the RBT jig method with any
of the films.
I have a local lab process my film (dip and dunk method) and I
pick it up the same day. It is never rolled and is returned in
an acetate sleeves. I take it home and hang it up until I
mount - which is hardly ever more than a few days and usually
the same or next day. Occasionally I get a roll with cupping
(I refer end to end as curling and top to bottom as cupping)
but it has happened with all the types of film I have used. I
also occasionally get chips that are loose on the pin bars,
but once again this happens with all film types. If it is
consistent, then I simply replace the pin bar. No offense to
RBT, but there is some manufacturing tolerance to the pin bars
so try several until you find one that is "tight". I have
found the 1.0 and 2.0 grey bars to be a much "tighter" fit in
the channel than the 0.5 white bars that most people use.
I am surprised to hear that so many people are having
problems. It seems that curling and cupping are the main
culprit. I know that humidity plays a roll in this, but Don
lives just down the street so I assume we have similar
atmospheric conditions.
Don - where are you getting you film processed? The next time
you have this problem let me know and I will take a look (if
you want).
That's all for now,
