In a message dated 00-11-29 16:23:47 EST, Jim Harp Writes:

<< I would be happy to own a camera with the Loreo's basic design but
better optics and some aperture and exposure control. Beyond painting all
those reflective surfaces, has anyone found other hacks that improve the
image quality from Loreos? Would better mirrors make a difference? I've
also been wondering if anyone would bring up beamsplitters as an alternative
for 3D beginners who already have SLRs and some photographic knowledge. >>

Last evening I was talking to Gary Schacker and Jim Harp must have been
listening in because he touched on our exact conversation! I was talking to
Gary about the Loreo thread and said that for about $125.00 or so the
necessary improvements could be made to the Loreo system (lenses, mirrors,
etc.) so that it would produce high quality results. Gary suggested that a
beamsplitter would acomplish that goal of high quality prints which could be
viewed immediately. I agreed that a beamsplitter (any brand) would be far
better than a Loreo. Anyone could get a decent SLR at a camera show for
under $100. A beamsplitter like the Franka or Stitz or a used Pentax could
be found for another $30.00 - $75.00. And there you have it - high quality
3D for the beginner, or for the advanced photographer for that matter. And
you would not be limited to prints. So forget the Loreo (unless improvements
are made), get to the next camera show for a used SLR, go to your favorite 3D
dealer or to eBay for a beamsplitter, and get bitten by the 3D bug!
