As Ray Moxom has pointed out, they can be synched electronically via
winders or motor drives (unless they are the very early OM-1's which were
not motor-drive capable). I have a twin rig of OM-4's set up this way and
it synchs well for anything but very fast subjects (60 mph traffic 150 feet
away does have slight but noticeable lack of synch). Although OM-4's have
more electronics than OM-1's, they still have mechanical linkage for the
shutter release. The synch cable for Olympus winders is easy to make with
two sub-mini (I think that's right) connectors from Radio Shack. The
winders are designed such that triggering one by its button will trigger a
second one connected via such a cable. I'd encourage you to give it a try
if you can get your hands on two winders. Feel free to contact me if I can
be of assistance.
