From the review..
If you thought you knew 3D gaming and you haven't
tried it with 3D glasses- think again, this is a whole
new ball game. What you think of as 3D gaming is
just pretend-3D on a 2D screen. OK, so as far as
that goes this is just pretend-3D in your head. But it's
damn good pretending, and looks great. This time,
be prepared to really flinch when something shoots
at you, and catch yourself trying to peek around
edges as if they were really there.
The Revelator 3D glasses have a wonderful effect on gameplay
.... these glasses really do make an enormous difference to 3D
gaming, one which literally has to be seen to be believed.
Best of all, you can try out nearly any major game with
these glasses (a notable exception being the Quake trilogy),
seeing that Direct3D support and the implementation of a
Z-buffer are quite widespread and practically
standard. The glasses are not too expensive, either- the
cable version goes for $50 and the infrared cordless version for $80.
...
I think the first thing Elsa's Revelator 3D glasses establish is that
3D glasses are now serious technological fact and not fringe
gadgetry. Considering the appeal of playing 3D games in serious
3D, this is definitely a good thing. And Elsa evidently wanted
people to use these glasses and not leave them to gather dust,
so they've ensured that you can use them on practically any major
game (and a lot of minor ones into the bargain) that you care to
name, as long as there's Direct3D support and a Z-buffer, both
of which are quickly becoming (if not already are)
standards of the gaming industry.
