IMO the issue is whether it would be OK to have the directory info on
the web without express consent of the membership. I suppose that if the
hard copy directories can be sold to the public (rather than just to
members) that this would be sort of the same thing as "publishing" the
info on the web, even if "free". Although obviously it would be
accessible to many more people. And much more quickly.
I do think it is a good idea myself (to post the NSA directory on the
web somewhere), and I don't think we would be disenfranchising anyone.
No rights are being taken from anyone, and we all still have the right
to wait a year or so to get our hard copies, which are available to any
member on floppy or paper for the same price, but this just gives
additional access to the information.
I for one forgot to send in my member info update, although my basic
info wouldn't have changed much. I would assume that updates could be
done more frequently and easily with digital media, although there would
of course be a significant amount of work involved. I would still like
to have a hard copy (paper) of the new directory when it is available,
even if the data are available online or on floppy. -Linda
