I think you are right.

In fact, with a little practice, you could write a Photoshop action 
to do it as well.  I work in the video game industry, and we have to 
alter numerous images in Photoshop for saturation, contrast etc., 
many of which are done with an action.

If you haven't explored actions, you may want to give it a shot, they 
can be useful for tedious or time consuming operations, and they are 
fairly easy to create.
