most current autostereo monitors usually work with variable shutter 
barreers... too long to explain, but have a look at
http://www.mrl.nyu.edu/~perlin/demos/autostereo.html
and wait a bit for the animations to download...

P.S. as long as autostereo monitors will be single-user devices the 
cheaper shutter glasses will be a better choice!
