[photo-3d] beamsplitter picture

Several list members have asked me about a beamsplitter picture
so they would know what one looked like to construct their own.
So far I've only been able to locate a Zeiss--too many files on
too many hard drives! I know there's a Pentax somewhere!

However, this Zeiss is fairly typical in appearance. There are
two main differences. Most beamsplitters do not have the large
vane sticking out in front. The vane is to avoid image overlapping
at larger apertures. You can do similar things with an ordinary
beamsplitter--either a vane or with "shades" extending from the
center to cover part of the openings on each side. The other main
difference is that most beamsplitters are flat across the front
instead of being slightly concave like the Zeiss. But the general
layout is the same.

The Zeiss is not a general use item as it is meant to attach to
specific Zeiss lenses on specific Zeiss cameras only, and will
not work on others (I think there is actually a lens element in
it--most beamsplitters don't have that). It may give better
results when attached to the specific Zeiss camera than ordinary
beamsplitters. I don't know.

Another reason it is not a general use item is that it is very
rare and quite expensive.

Enjoy! I'll post a Pentax picture when I find one!
