My guess is that even if they did, they would have still did
what they did. After all, they don't want people not to
understand what's going on, even if that means not being
technically accurate. And the two colored projection beams
are more visually interesting.
Think of it this way -- have you ever seen a space movie,
besides 2001, where the space ships *don't* fly by without
making any noise?
