I am not sure how similar a Nimslo (with 30mm lenses) would be, but
according to the depth of field scale on my Realist (with 35 mm lenses),
if the camera were focused at 10 feet and set at f5.6, then image should
be "sharp" from about 7 feet to about 20 feet. I do not recall what the
fixed-focus distance for the Nimslo is (10 or 12 feet?) and I believe
you would get a little more depth of field from the wider angle 30 mm.
But that 6 foot figure is probably in the ballpark.
If you specifically want to take closer photos, consider using a closeup
lens attachment. Or if you want more depth of field, consider a
modification to "fool" the camera into using f11, as recently discussed
on the macro-3d list. I haven't done this yet, but plan to try Lincoln's
method of using a small bright light in front of the camera light
sensor. Apparently some Nimslos are fooled by this and others are not,
into stopping down even with flash attached. -Linda
