Interesting observation. I looked at it again and do notice that the
blue box looks like it is not in line (or slightly smaller). Your
quite right, it would add a subtle perspective depth cue. You might
want to import the image into a graphics program and zoom into it.
What you'll notice is that the blue box is in line. This will get 
rid of any perspective cues and you'll still see the red box being
closer. Actually the effect is enhanced when you zoom in!
