I can vouch for the "memory effect" of Ni-Cad batteries.  I have a Sony Hi-8
video cam battery that sat for nearly a year.  Then I charged it until it
read 'full' and tried to use it.  I got about 5 minutes' use out of it
before the low battery indicator came on.  After a thorough discharge and
recharge, it was good again.

Every so often I have to unplug the electric toothbrush for a few days' use,
too, or it won't take as much charge.
