I have a Vivid and have not seen this problem, however I am very interested
to know others opinions because I plan to buy another one (not George's, I
can't belive how high it's gotten!)

One thing I have found though that may be related. The View-Master personal
Stereo Camera, which was designed by the same person and has several similar
mechanics, may have this issue as well.

With the VM Personal you get a strange light leak randomly when you advance
the film aggressively. It took me forever to figure out that correlation,
but when I mentioned it on our View-Master list Joseph Hohmann confirmed
that he had come to the same conclusion.
Since I am now in the habit of advancing the film on both cameras in a
relatively slow and deliberate manor, I may have been avoiding the problem
on the TDC as well.

As to the cause, i'm not really sure. I'm very familiar with the internal
workings of the View-Master camera now (can take one apart and put it back
together, and it works!), but it's still mostly a mystery. All I can think
is that the shutter slightly opens when cocking during an aggressive film
advance.
