Hi,
I use older equipment that I got used/refurb'd that
works nicely so far -- a Polaroid 35/ES 2700 dpi film scanner and
a Polaroid CI-5000S Film recorder (also around 2700 dpi). I
use Vuescan for the scanner (best $40 you could ever spend,
Ed does an amazing job and has a new version about every week
except when he's on vacation like he is this week).

There's a moderately active mailing list that includes
quite a few posts from VueScan's author with a fairly high
signal-to-noise ratio about film scanners. Like this one is
supposed to be about 3D stuff. :-)

It's a U.K. based mailing list and the "home site" for
the mailing list is at http://www.halftone.co.uk

I've been on that list for maybe 6 months, and it's
quite good if film scanning is something of interest. IMO.
