I too love this thread regarding first stereo pictures! It's so fun to hear
about how others got started! Might I humbly suggest that we put up a
temporary website to post these pics? I'd be glad to do it!
I first learned about stereo photography while reading an issue of an Amiga
(computer) magazine on creating digital 3D. They mentioned Reel 3D's
catalogue as a good starting place. I love catalogues so I sent for it.
Imagine my thrill when I realized that I could make MY OWN View-Master
reels! I found Harry Poster's name somewhere and ordered my first VM
Personal. In the meantime, a good friend who had known more about stereo
photography caught the bug and picked up a Realist 45 somewhere. I borrowed
his camera one week while I was on vacation. Another friend and I drove up
to Hickory Run state park (above Jim Thorpe PA) to try it out. We later
discovered that it had a sticky shutter, but I somehow managed to take some
pretty decent photos that day. Not sure which is first, but I can easily add
one to the page if anyone else is interested!
