The film you were trying to remember (Natalie Wood's last)
was called "Brainstorm". While Showscan was inteneded
for the VR segments, I 'think' it never made it to theaters in
it's native 70mm 60fps form due to costs involved.

..A friend of mine saw a Showscan feature (P3Der Tom
Pettit, chime in if you read this!) and said they started the
film off with the standard exhibition type of fare.. But then
the film abruptly stops. ..A tech comes on screen to say
things will be up and running soon, bit of course everyone
soon realizes the tech is not in front of the screen, but is
part of the Showscan feature and the film actually never
stopped.

I think it's a shame that film based 60frame per second
efforts have been so minimal, as I imagine 60fps and
3-D would make an excellent combo. T23D was shot
in 70mm at 30fps, vs the standard 24fps, and even the
flat clips I've seen of the feature have a much smoother
'flow' to them. One of the "Cinerama" creators Mike
Todd tried to integrate 30fps into the Todd-AO format,
but the costs of shooting films twice (24fps & 30fps)
eventualy knocked Todd-AO films back to 24fps.
SMPTE even pushed for a 30fps film standard in the
early 1980's, but it obviously didn't get far...
