It's hard to evaluate a scan from a VM reel without having the original 
to compare to.  Do you think you were able to capture all of the detail 
in the original VM image using the Microtek scanner?  Since commercial 
VM reels are inherently "dupes" some of them are quite soft to begin 
with.  I've found that the custom advertising reels from the 50s  and 
60s have some of the sharpest images I've seen on non-personal reels. 
Perhaps extra care was taken with the smaller, more lucrative 
commercial accounts.   The scan Dr Dave took on his Epson 1640 has lots 
of nice detail.  I've tried scanning VM reels on my Epson 1200, and I 
can see that the 1640 yields a much sharper image.  Jim Harp
