Bilateral symmetry to each of the human senses (yes, even smell and taste to
a small extent) is a fascinating subject.

Sound may seem off the subject, but the point in the following relates to
some similarities between stereo sound and stereo imagery as to how we
interpret things.

Several years ago, I played a stereophonic recording of some classical music
to a group of professional musicians. Only, for a joke, I switched the left
and right sides, putting the first violins and all of the other instruments
on the wrong sides.

I was surprised that no one commented on the reversal.

At first, I thought that I had embarrassed them, and that they were just
being polite. But then a lively discussion of the music, the performance,
and the recording ensued.

At that point, I realized, of course! To the musicians the pseudo stereo
sound was correct. Because, when they are participants in a live full
orchestra, from their perspective all of the sounds are reversed (as
compared to the audience POV). Think about it.
