My recollection is weak but I seem to remember that
this is a common situation with these projector/viewers
and can be fixed.

The two pictures should overlap, as they do in
ordinary projection.

Illumination should be OK but it will certainly won't
blind you. :)

Sorry for the sketchy reply... This machine was discussed
in much greater detail a few years back.  I remember
Harry Poster commented on it.   I added a few comments
when I took mine apart to fix.
