I guess part of the question is what really came "first" in ones life? I
am a pediatrician by profession and training, but my real loves are
music, nature appreciation, and photography, more specifically stereo
photography since I discovered it. [The fact that the term "amateur"
really means "lover" is no accident, and earlier comments about amateurs
often having a greater appreciation for art and beauty than
professionals I think can be very true.]

I also think that often "scientists" value art more than more than
"artists" value science. The "science" and the "art" have always been
intertwined for me, even dating back to childhood walks in the woods and
early drawings of animals and such, and the temporal order in which
skills and interests have evolved over time is not always the most
important factor IMO. 

I think the diversity of interests and skills and backgrounds in this
group is great! -Linda
