BINGO!!!
Many good ideas posted here... I agree with what
some of you said... If the clouds are moving fast
enough to be noticeable, trying to record a 100 feet
hyperstereo by walking around, might be a problem.
Also, I must admit, while I was in the boat/tour of
NY, I did not notice the clouds drift. It would
have been very difficult to see this, given the
motion parallax due to the boat movement. I did
take about 4-5 pairs. All of them, but one, were
ruined by the cloud movement which brought them
in front of the buildings. In only one pair the
clouds did not move. This pair "Buildings in Manhattan"
has a 9/9 PSA Salon record and has received several
awards (lucky me!)
If you are not able to tell if and how the clouds
are moving and if you feel that you have a very
good photographic opportunity, it is a good idea
to bracket (oh, no!) directions by moving in
opposite directions or turning the camera upside
down if forced to move in one direction.
This problem also applies in pictures taken from an
airplane, trying to capture both a hyperstereo and the
wing of the plane in stereo, by shifting the camera
slightly during the two successive exposures. Whether
you should take the R picture first and then the L, or
the other way around, depends on which side of the
plane you are sitting. (We discussed this briefly
some time back).
Good comments also regarding the shadows cast by
clouds which almost always are a problem, the relative
movement within clouds and the possibility of taking
hypers of clouds from a moving car (yes, I have done
it and I WAS DRIVING THE DAMN CAR!!! - Please do not
try this... it is really dangerous...:))
Are you now ready for quiz no. 4?
