[photo-3d] Twinning digital Casio

I just had a chance over the weekend to test twinning the Casio QV-2800UX digital camera.
The camera comes with a wire, digital remote that controls the camera
by serial commands through a stereo miniature jack on the camera.
I found that a single remote split into two (Radio Shack parts) will control both cameras at once.
If the focus is preset (can also be done via the remote), the cameras are very closely in sync.
Using a scope, I tested the two cameras by taking pictures of the trace.
There was a random variation of +/- 20ms in sync between the two cameras.
When I locked the camera white balance, oddly the variation was much less
(a consistent 2-5ms difference between cameras with an occasional large difference)
Seems to indicate some camera software switches might improve the sync.
Testing with the camera flash (turn one flash on and the other off)
At 1/30 sec exposure, both cameras would see the flash most of the time
At 1/60 sec exposure, cameras would occasionally see the flash.
This was done before I thought of the white balance issue
The two camera's auto white balance where acting differently. This had made me
suspicious about their effect on sync. I'm asking Casio if this difference between
the cameras is normal.
