Viewer lenses-I a at a loss to understand what greater exoense is caused by
puting in an interocular control in a MF viewer especially in a viewer
costing several hundred of dollars-also the 35 mm viewersall( that I know
of ) are less than 25 mm in diameter and with the use an interocular control
they work for most people as far as I know. My experience-trying many { at
least 30) lenses was that bigger was not necessarily better-and usually the
bigger lenses had cosiderable distortion along with considerable astigmatism
which should be expected with achromatic lenses of f/2.0 and faster ( 80
mm lenses with a diameter of 40 mm or more) I tried using the viewer
included with the EXPO 2000 and was not happy with using it partly because
of the poor mounting of some of the slides and my wife had a terrible time
untill she used one of my viewers with an adjustable inter-ocular . I
realize that my lenses are mostly 3 elements-air spaced purchased back when
Edmund Salvage had competition J( Jaegers ). What I am trying to say is that
80 mm lenses with a diameter of 30 mm work very well on MF slides when used
with an inter-ocular control and are sharp with very little astigmatism and
no distortion as seen by me. I am at a total loss to understand why anyone
would would build an expensive viewer with out an inter-ocular adjustment-I
wish I was in better health as I could build a decent viewer for 150 $ or
less -but thats life. DON
